Apple used to schedule the special event on September or October annually, to introduce their new hardware. Last year, Apple held their special event twice, in September to introduce iPhone 6 and 6 plus, and in October to introduce the new iMac 5K and iPad Air 2. They usually held the special event 3 months after the World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC). This year, WWDC was held on June 8th, then Apple’s special event will probably be held in September. The question is, at what date?
According to a new report from BuzzFeed’s, John Paczkowski, Apple will hold its annual fall iPhone event on September 9th. Which new hardware will be introduced by Apple at their September 9th special event? Previously, some sources were so sure about the announcement of iPhone 6s and 6s plus, new iPad mini 4, iPad Pro, and Apple TV. As Apple’s refresh cycle, they should include iPad Air 3 as well in this event, but an interesting news came from DigiTimes recently, reported that iPad Air 3 will absence in that event and maybe this year. I have 2 speculations about the absence of iPad Air 3 this year.
Here are 2 Speculations about the absence of iPad Air 2 this year
Because iPad Air 2 is still powerful
Its hardware technology is still relevant for this year. iPad Air 2 is powered by Apple A8X, which is the fastest Apple A-series chip up to now, and even its benchmark multi-core score approaching Intel core i5-4300U on Microsoft Surface Pro 3.
Its 8MP camera has the same quality with iPhone 5s. The new LCD display, and its thin design is seemed doesn’t need an update yet. Moreover, the Split Screen feature of iOS 9 can only be done on iPad Air 2, which is one of the relevant hardware in this year.
Because Apple wants to focus on new iPad Pro 12.9-inch
Seems Apple doesn’t want to confuse their market with the presence of 2 flagship at the same time. They want us to focus on their new iPad Pro first, with certain hardware capability over the iPad Air 2. So, the market will respond it fast without confused which one to choose.
If iPad Air 3 will absence in the September 9th special event, alternatively, you can choose iPad Air 2 if you are planning to own the iPad with 9.7-inch display. But, if you are expecting iPad with a bigger display and has unique capability, seems that you don’t have to worry about the absence of the iPad Air 3, right?
