We have heard many rumors about new Samsung Gear S2 before its announcement. Samsung has convinced us right before IFA 2015, that their new wearable will be unique and different than the other Android wearables. Moreover, it probably will compete with the Apple Watch.
Full Circle or Rounded square
Gear S2 challenges Apple Watch starting from its look: the design. Samsung Gear S2 comes with full circle design with a durable stainless steel material on its body. With 1.2″ sAMOLED display and 11.4 mm of thin for Gear S2 Bluetooth and Gear S2 classic make this smartwatch look slim and beautiful on you wrist. Like Vlad Savov, one of The Verge journalist who was at IFA and touched these beautiful device directly, said:
“This is a handsome and light watch with a beautiful and bright display.”
Talking about the design, it’s all back to your taste of style. Do you prefer a full circle design or a rounded square?
Rotating Bezel vs Digital Crown
Seems it will become a “war” of the ergonomic hardware feature in term of the navigation in a small design. Both has been adopted in a conventional watch for quite long time, but digital crown is more familiar than the rotating bezel. Samsung combines a consistent rotating bezel design with a full circle display on Gear S2. This combination will give a different experience.
3G capability and Battery
Samsung Gear S2 adopts a wireless charging, while Apple Watch still uses the induction charging technology, wherein the charger head attach to the back of the watch body. The more important thing of the watch battery is its life time. Samsung claims that their Gear S2 can last up to 2-3 days and that is better. When it comes to the Apple Watch battery, it can only last up to 1 day. This great battery life is supported by the OS Tizen and Samsung Exynos processor, which are power saving for BT version and MSM8x26 from Qualcomm for the 3G version. Samsung provides a 3G version for the Gear S2 3G model. It allows you to have a phone call without the need to pair it to your smartphone. This is a great option.
Water resistant and Compatibility
This feature gives a plus point to a smartwatch wearable. Samsung claims that Gear S2 has a water resistant IP68. So, you don’t have to worry if it’s raining or if you want to take this smartwatch swim with you. But, you need to keep in mind that this water resistant rating is not applied for salty water.
Samsung Gear S2 is not only used for Samsung device, but it’s also compatible for Android smartphones, which has a minimum 1.5 of RAM and OS Kitkat 4.4 or later. How about the iPhone? Will it also compatible with the iPhone as well as the Android wear? Let’s see the update from Samsung.
