Galaxy S9/S9+ Vs Galaxy S8

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ come with major upgrades. One is in the processor department and the other significant upgrade is the camera. The brand new Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ are the very first phones in the industry which make use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 technology. It is by far the Samsung’s most powerful mobile processor to date. The super fast eight-core CPU has a clock speed of over 2.8 GHz, which is significantly high in comparison to S8’s 2.35 GHz processor. We haven’t reached the start yet. The new SnapDragon 845 processor consists of the most powerful GPU and a super fast modem.

The brand new Samsung Galaxy S9 has the same RAM as S8, 4 GB. But the S9 Plus comes with a 6 GB RAM.

Storage variants begin at 64 GB and both the phones are also available with a maximum internal storage of 256 GB.

Camera Upgrades

The brand new Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ supports a super powerful 12-megapixel rear camera. It is also supported by a dual aperture lens as well. It has somewhat of a similar resolution in comparison to the S8 camera. The Samsung Galaxy S9 has an 8-megapixel autofocus front camera with a f/1.7 sensor. Whereas, the Samsung Galaxy S9+ has a  dual front camera setup with a SuperSpeed Dual Pixel 12-megapixel autofocus lens.

What’s more, the camera can take super slow video recordings at very high precision, even in the most challenging conditions. The camera captures slow-motion clips at 960 fps. In comparison to S9, the S9+ has a much better and technologically advanced rear camera as it consists of a dual lens, and the camera poses serious competition to other major smartphone brands such as Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or the Apple iPhone X.

Design Upgrades

Samsung did announce that they have made a few minor changes to the original design. The top and bottom bezel were reduced slightly. The most significant change is the positioning of the fingerprint scanner. It has been moved below the rear camera in order to make it more convenient for the user. There is also a small front firing speaker in the mic which is placed at the top.

Both phones come with a 3.5mm jack for your headphones, along with micro SD slot and a USB charger slot.

Display Upgrades

Both Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S8 are equipped with a 5.8-inch curved QHD+ Super AMOLED display which has an aspect ratio of 18.5:9.

Another notable additional feature is the ability to adjust your screen resolution. The maximum screen resolution on the Samsung Galaxy S9 is 2,960×1,440 pixels (also known as WQHD+). You have the liberty to adjust the resolution of your phone screen, to conserve battery life. The screen resolution can be brought down to 1,480×720 pixels, which still falls under the HD category.

Some Notable Additions

Biometric Technology

The new Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with a new Intelligent Scan Technology. It consists of a biometric feature that makes use of your face and iris to unlock the phone. This can also be done in challenging lighting conditions like in complete darkness or even under severe sunlight. This could prove to be a game changer in the smartphone market today.

Ar Emoji

Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with the AR EMOJI. It does the same as the iPhone X’s Animoji feature. The AR EMOJI creates the AR version of the user’s face. Once created, you can share it as a sticker or a video. Unlike the iPhone X’s Anjimoji, the Samsung Galaxy S9 allows both front and rear camera capability.

Bixby Vision

The new Bixby Vision has been upgraded in order to improve Live Translation. You will have the option to point at a particular text and the phone will translate the text you need in real time. Final Verdict

The brand new Samsung Galaxy series is certainly an upgrade on the predecessor series. The most significant changes were incorporated in the camera, battery level along with a host of other improvements.

People were certainly not expecting a huge upgrade on the current releases, but Samsung did not disappoint.

Since the brand new Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ are all available at prices slightly higher than the previous versions, it will be the money well spent.
