Last year, the South Koreans have launched a curved smartphone named LG G Flex. Although it was one of the most unique phones in 2014, the model had some serious problems. LG G Flex 2 fixed them all and is now one of the best terminals on the market.

During MWC 2015, LG showed the LG Watch Urban, a luxury SmartWatch, but also showed the LG G Flex 2 terminal launched at CES. Last year I used the first version of the smartphone for several months, but I was quite disappointed: display problems, looked cheap, mediocre camera.

Unlike Samsung, who gave up the Samsung Galaxy Round after the first release, LG has decided to bend another chance with LG Flex 2 and well made. I played with him at MWC 2015 and I liked it.

LG G Flex 2 – Design

LG G3 was one of the best phones of last year and the South Koreans have used some of its design elements on the LG G Flex 2. First there are the buttons on the back, which are now much easier to hit and hold than it was on the first model. We also have an 5.5 inch screen (down from 6 in the G Flex) framed by a housing with straighter lines than in the first model.

The phone feels good when keeping it in the hand, almost as good as the Samsung Galaxy S6, and provides a premium feel. The back casing is made of a glossy plastic able to heal itself and it immediately attracts the eyes. Its surrounding edges are thin and this reduces the size of the smartphone, being more compact than other 5-inch screen phones.

Overall, I would not change anything in the design of LG G Flex 2. It evolved nicely since the first version, and those who want a smartphone that jump out, you have to consider the LG G Flex 2.

LG G Flex 2 – Performance

LG G Flex 2 was the first smartphone with an Snapdragon 810 processor, the processor that will power the majority of terminals in the first half of this year. That means increased performance, especially if we take in consideration the 3GB RAM model with 32GB storage space.

The phone is “flying” through the menus and no application poses a problem. It is certainly a phone that will handle the next generation of smartphone games and offers a very pleasant user experience in everyday situations: browsing, social media, applications.

The rest of the specifications are including a 13MP camera with laser focus and optical stabilization, expandable storage via microSD card and a battery of 3000 mAh, which could in theory, to provide an autonomy above average.

LG G Flex 2 – Display

One of the biggest problems with LG G Flex was the display. It was using an P-OLED panel with 6-inches, HD resolution. First, the resolution was too small for a display of this size, but “the defect” was the high display technology itself, which was experimental at this point. Users complaining about the effect of “ghosting” (recently closed applications image remains visible for a few seconds).

These issues have been fixed with the G Flex 2, a smartphone with a very bright display, saturated with HD resolution and without any “ancestor” problems. Although the curved screen functionality is almost nonexistent and it is a matter of design rather than utility, at least the device is really good looking.

LG G Flex 2 – Conclusion

Although in terms of design the terminal is not as innovative as the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, the LG G Flex 2 is a serious smartphone and not an experiment as the previous version. It can be a reliable phone in everyday life and an excellent smartphone for those who want something different.
