Software update

Let’s start with one of the basics. You should update the software every time the new version becomes available. Updates are all about improvements in stability, in performance but also in battery life. So, every once in a while check if there is an update. To do that, go to Settings > About phone > System updates and then click on “Check for update”. If the update isn’t available you will the message “Your system is up to date”, and if there is an update just tap Install and follow the steps on the screen.

Enable Airplane mode

If you are in the area with poor signal, or if you don’t need your mobile network at the moment, you may turn the Airplane mode on. That way, your device won’t be searching for the network in order to stay connected.

Turn off Wi-Fi, GPS, Mobile Internet and Bluetooth

Turn off these services when not in use. After all, you don’t need them all during the day and if they are enabled the battery will drain faster. When you need Wi-Fi or any other service turn it back on.

Close the apps that you are not using

We all have many apps that we don’t use very often, so you should close such apps. That way, you will prevent the application and its processes from running in the background, thus, your battery will last longer between charges. Navigate to Settings, tap Apps and find the app you wish to close. Tap on that app and click “Force stop”.

Remove the apps you don’t need any more

If you have installed tons of apps, it’s a good time to think which ones you need and remove the ones you don’t. Keep in mind that you can’t uninstall the pre-installed apps. Go to Settings, tap Apps, find the application you wish to remove, click on it and then tap Uninstall.

Use Greenify

Once you removed the apps you don’t need anymore, the apps you still have may misbehave and drain the battery. You can download and install Greenify which is available in the Play Store. This app will put the misbehaving apps into hibernation when you don’t use them. So you get to keep your favorite apps without worrying they will drain your battery.

Set shorter sleep time

This is another simple trick. Go to Settings, tap Display, and then tap Sleep. Set the Sleep time to 15 or 30 seconds.

Don’t use live wallpapers

Live wallpapers look cool but if you want your battery to last longer, don’t use them.

Lower the level of brightness

To do this, go to Settings, tap Display, tap on Brightness level and reduce it.

These are some quick and useful tips that will make your battery last longer between charges.
