What is Data Roaming?

The term roaming refers to the activity of the smartphone or any tablet outside its carriers home network. So if you are outside the network of your carrier then you are using some foreign carrier which has an agreement with your service provider so that you can use your device for incoming and outgoing calls, texts and voicemails.

When your device is in roaming you are charged for every single activity you do with the smartphone which incurs the charges. So before you turn on the roaming feature in your smartphone make sure you contact your service provider.

How does Data Roaming work?

So if you enable data roaming in your device, you will have to pay for connecting to the internet, making or receiving phone calls or in some cases, you may have to pay for the incoming and outgoing messages as well. You can connect your smartphone to the other wireless network using the roaming services and once you connect to the roaming network, you will be notified by your own carrier that you have arrived in a roaming network.

In most of the cases, as it happens in the smartphone, roaming service is switched off by default so you would have to switch it on if you want to use the roaming services.

Please note that you should enable the roaming service feature only if you agree to incur additional roaming charges, otherwise you should switch the roaming feature off.
