The new mini firmware update tvOS 9.0.1 for Apple TV 4th-generation has been released as an over-the-air update. It is the first firmware update for tvOS. There is no information about what is new on this update, but it likely brings bug fixes and stability improvements to the recently launched device. Most Apple TV users will have automatic updates enabled, but you can manually download the update by going to Settings >> System >> Software Updates. Once you’ve downloaded the new software update to tvOS, Apple TV allows you to choose to install the update now or wait and do it later.
At this moment, Apple TV cannot be updated via iTunes as the iOS devices. Alternatively, you can connect it to your computer by using a USB Type-C to restore and update tvOS, but it will lose all the data inside.
Apple TV 4th-generation is powered by tvOS, the new OS that is derived from iOS, specially for Apple TV. The interesting thing from tvOS is the way it’s named, in line with the iOS version. Apple prefers to name the first tvOS version with tvOS 9.0 rather than tvOS 1.0. Apple also recently released the first tvOS beta of version 9.1 to registered developers. Even though there is no information about the new features on the update version of tvOS, some users hope the new tvOS version will support the Magic Keyboard for the faster typing on Apple TV.
