Stability AI Unveils StableLM, an Open-Source Chatbot to Compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT

Stability AI has announced the alpha version of StableLM, an open-source chatbot designed to democratize access to advanced language models and compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT.
StableLM is a smaller and more efficient solution, using just three billion to seven billion parameters, compared to ChatGPT's 175 billion parameter model. StableLM has been trained on a new experimental dataset from EleutherAI called "The Pile," which contains 1.5 trillion tokens, three times larger than the dataset used to train most AI models. Despite this, most feel that ChatGPT is still the AI chat leader as it has undergone more refinements, including reinforcement learning to help reduce flawed results.
Stability AI is also the company behind Stable Diffusion, a popular AI image generator that can be extended by third-party developers. Just like Stable Diffusion, StableLM offers a free and open-source solution for AI chatbots that's available to all.
