Samsung has teamed up with Naver Corp. to develop an in-house generative AI platform for exclusive use by Samsung employees. Unlike ChatGPT, which was used by some Samsung employees and led to sensitive information being leaked, Samsung’s new AI platform will remain within the company’s servers.

According to The Korea Economic Daily, Samsung’s generative AI platform will be developed jointly with Naver Corp. and will initially be used exclusively by employees within the Device Solutions Division. Following field tests, the tool may become available to other employees in different branches.

The new AI platform is expected to help Samsung employees streamline their work by using the power of generative AI while also addressing the issue of leaked information. The in-house AI chatbot will also be tailored to understand Korean language better than any other generative AI tool.

Samsung has learned the risks of using generative AI platforms in corporate environments following the ChatGPT incident. Bits of the company’s sensitive semiconductor-related information leaked through ChatGPT when some employees tried to use the tool to ease their work, unaware that the information and code shared with the generative AI would be stored on remote servers outside of Samsung’s control.

Samsung’s partnership with Naver Corp. will allow the companies to share sensitive semiconductor data, which Naver Corp. will use to implement the information into the generative AI platform. This move will enable Samsung employees to use the AI tool’s full potential without worrying about semiconductor-related source code leaks.

As Samsung’s in-house generative AI platform remains within the company’s servers and is exclusive to its employees, it may be more beneficial to the company than ChatGPT ever could have been.
