In a recent hiccup for Google Drive users, reports on the company's support forum indicate a significant issue affecting files, particularly for those using the Google Drive for Desktop computer app.

Some customers revealed that files seemed to vanish without warning, with one South Korean user sharing that their account appeared to roll back to May 2023. In this case, files created or uploaded after May 2023 were mysteriously absent, and activity history and trash files displayed nothing beyond that date.

Despite efforts to follow Google's outlined recovery and backup processes, the affected users found no resolution. Others on the support forum echoed similar concerns, noting missing files ranging from recent uploads to those spanning the last year or two.

Acknowledging the problem, a Google support message on the forum reassured users that the issue is under investigation. In the interim, customer support advises users not to change their root Google Drive folder.

Notably, users relying solely on the Google Drive website or smartphone apps seem unaffected by this glitch. Nevertheless, the situation raises concerns, particularly for those with essential work or personal documents stored in the cloud. Stay tuned for updates as Google addresses this unexpected challenge.
