Google Messages Beta Test Introduces Customizable Swipe Actions for Enhanced User Experience
Google is currently working on enhancing the swipe actions in its Google Messages app to provide users with more customization options. This feature aims to streamline inbox management by allowing users to conveniently sort through their messages. The update specifically targets the messaging app that comes pre-installed on numerous Samsung phones.
The concept of swipe gestures was first introduced in Gmail back in 2018, enabling users to define different actions for right and left swipes. By default, both swipes would archive emails. In July 2022, Google extended this swipe gesture feature to the Google Messages app as a beta test. Initially, the beta version offered three options: archiving texts, deleting them, or disabling the swipe feature altogether.
The latest development reported by Android Police reveals that Google Messages is currently beta testing additional swipe actions. Users will soon have the ability to mark messages as read or unread with a single swipe. This functionality can be customized within the Swipe Actions section of the Google Messages Settings. The feature has been observed in the Message app v20230512_01_RC00 beta.
It should be noted that while some users have reported accessing the new swipe action feature, others have not yet received the option or have experienced its disappearance, suggesting it may be a server-side change. Once fully implemented, this feature will enable users to quickly perform read and unread actions on their messages, bringing the swipe actions within the Messages app in line with those available in the Gmail app.
Google continues to innovate and improve its products, aiming to enhance user experiences and optimize workflow efficiency. As the development and testing of the customizable swipe actions feature progress, users can expect even more convenience and personalization options within the Google Messages app.
