Game Freak, the Japanese developer best known for the Pokémon franchise, is collaborating with Take-Two Interactive’s publishing label Private Division to create a new action adventure IP called Project Bloom. Game Freak has experimented with other genres such as strategy and rhythm-based platformers in the past, but this new IP is expected to be “bold and tonally different” from the company's previous work.
While details on Project Bloom are scarce, the companies have released concept art and a short video to announce the partnership. Game Freak's recent title Pokémon Legends: Arceus demonstrated the company's ability to handle open-world and action-heavy gameplay, leading to anticipation for the new IP.
Surprisingly, the new game will not be published by Nintendo, despite the company's partnership with Game Freak on the Pokémon franchise for over 25 years. Game Freak is an independent developer and the co-owner of the Pokémon franchise with Nintendo.
As of yet, no gaming console has been announced as the home for Project Bloom, which is expected to release in Take-Two Interactive’s 2026 financial year, running from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.
