Facebook Users Can Claim Their Portion of $725 Million Privacy Settlement

Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica scandal has been settled as the largest privacy class action lawsuit in history. Now, eligible Facebook users in the US can submit their claim and receive their portion of the $725 million settlement.
The scandal, which occurred in 2016, saw up to 87 million US Facebook users’ personal data compromised by Cambridge Analytica via paid ads disguised as personality tests. Following the scandal, Cambridge Analytica filed for bankruptcy and Facebook paid the Federal Trade Commission a $5 billion fine, as well as an additional $100 million to the SEC for misleading investors over data use.
In December 2022, the Facebook Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation class action lawsuit was settled, resulting in the largest-ever payout in the US for a privacy case. The settlement website is now live, allowing eligible users to claim their portion of the settlement.
To submit a claim, users must visit https://facebookuserprivacysettlement.com/#submit-claim and provide their name, address, email, phone number, and answer a few questions about their US residency and Facebook account. Claimants can choose to receive payment via Mastercard gift card, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or direct deposit. Alternatively, claimants can mail in their claim form or opt out of the settlement.
