Apple Watch software to get biggest update since launch at WWDC 2023
Apple is set to introduce a major update to the Apple Watch’s software at this year’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June, according to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The update, watchOS 10, is expected to bring a revamped interface for the popular wearable, making it the biggest user interface update since the Watch’s launch in 2015.
While details on the updated design are limited, the report suggests that the updated watchOS will “bring bigger enhancements” than the releases planned for iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV. This includes the updated interface that will “tell you most of what you need to know about the Apple Watch in 2023”, Gurman says.
Apple’s software update for the Apple Watch comes at a time when many designers have taken their own shots at a makeover of the watchOS interface, but to date, most releases have been minor tweaks. The updated watchOS 10 is expected to change that, and Gurman notes that the rest of the hardware changes will be minimal, making the software update the Watch’s biggest news and main focus.
WWDC 2023, which will take place from June 5 to June 9, is expected to showcase the updated watchOS 10 alongside Apple’s new AR/VR headset and the xrOS that will power it, as well as new Mac laptops and iOS 17.
