ChatGPT Unveils Voice Feature for All Users
ChatGPT has a big update! Now, all users on the ChatGPT app can use the voice feature, which used to be just for paying users. Instead of typing your question, you can press a button and ask ChatGPT out loud. It changes your spoken words into text and then changes the text answer back into spoken words, like talking to Google Assistant or Alexa.
To use voice chats on ChatGPT, go to Settings > New Features on the app, choose voice conversations, and then tap the headphone button to pick from five different voices.
This news came after a global outage on November 21, when ChatGPT wasn't working. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, promised to explain what happened and how they'll stop it from happening again.
In a post on X, OpenAI said that the voice feature is now for everyone who uses ChatGPT for free. To use it, download the ChatGPT app, click the headphone icon, and pick from five voices made with help from voice actors.
ChatGPT with voice is now available to all free users. Download the app on your phone and tap the headphones icon to start a conversation. Your spoken words get saved in your history, but the audio doesn't. OpenAI uses Whisper, their speech recognition system, to turn what you say into text. The app figures out the language automatically, but it's better to tell the app your preferred language in the settings for more accurate results.
This new voice feature uses a text-to-speech model to make the audio sound human-like. ChatGPT was launched a year ago in November and now has over 100 million users. In February, OpenAI started a paid plan for ChatGPT with extra features.
