Double tap with three fingers to unzoom
Place three fingers on the display and double-tap with all three together. This gesture returns you to the unmagnified view when Accessibility Zoom is active, including on iOS 27 and iOS 26.
To reduce magnification without fully zooming out, double-tap with three fingers and keep them on the screen after the second tap. Then drag up or down to adjust the magnification level. Hold that second tap instead of lifting your fingers.
Turn off Zoom in Accessibility settings
Once you can use the screen, open Settings, select Accessibility, then select Zoom. Turn off Zoom to disable the feature. The same path applies on iOS 27 and iOS 26.
If you want to keep using Zoom, leave it enabled and reduce Maximum Zoom Level on that settings screen. This limits how much the screen can enlarge. You can still double-tap with three fingers to return to the unmagnified view.
Use the Zoom menu or floating controller
To adjust magnification with a slider, triple-tap the screen with three fingers to open the Zoom menu. Move the Zoom Level slider toward lower magnification.
To display the floating Zoom Controller, triple-tap with three fingers and tap Show Controller. Double-tap the controller to zoom out. Customized controller actions can differ, so use the menu’s Zoom Level slider if your controller responds differently.
Try the button shortcut if it is configured
If Zoom is already assigned to your Accessibility Shortcut, triple-click the Side button, or the Home button on an iPhone with one. When several accessibility features are assigned, tap Zoom in the menu that opens.
To prepare the shortcut for future use, open Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut and select Zoom. You can then triple-click the appropriate button to turn the feature on or off. If the shortcut is not configured while you are stuck, use the three-finger gesture or computer controls instead.
Use AssistiveTouch when the gesture is difficult
You can use AssistiveTouch to simulate the three-finger gesture using one finger. To enable it, open Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch, then turn on AssistiveTouch.
Open the floating AssistiveTouch menu and select Device > More > Gestures, then choose three-finger input. Double-tap with one finger to simulate the three-finger double-tap that unzooms the display. If you cannot reach these controls, use the computer method below.
Disable Zoom from a Mac or Windows PC
On a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, connect your iPhone, open Finder, and select the recognized iPhone. Select Configure Accessibility, uncheck Zoom, and click OK.
On a Windows PC running Apple Devices, connect your iPhone with USB or USB-C, or use an already configured Wi-Fi connection. Select your iPhone in the sidebar, select General, and under Options, select Configure Accessibility. Uncheck Zoom, then select OK.
If you need Apple Devices, open Apple’s Windows app download page. Follow the link to download Apple Devices from the Microsoft Store, then use its accessibility controls as described above.
Check text and icon size when Zoom is not the issue
When text is oversized without the screen being cropped, adjust text size. On iOS 27, open Settings > Appearance > Text Size and move the slider left. On iOS 26, open Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size and move the slider left.
For accessibility text enlargement, open Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text. Move the slider toward smaller text, and turn off Larger Accessibility Sizes if you do not want the additional size range. These accessibility text adjustments apply to apps that support Dynamic Type.
On iOS 27, you can also open Control Center while inside a supported app and reduce the Text Size slider. If the control is missing, tap the Add button, select Add a Control, then select Text Size. This changes text sizing rather than Accessibility Zoom.
If only your iOS 27 Home Screen icons are large and app names have disappeared, touch and hold the Home Screen background until the icons jiggle. Tap the button that opens the Home Screen editing options, choose Customize, then tap the large app icon button to switch back to smaller icons.
Zoom out when only an app is enlarged
For zoomable content such as photos, webpages, and maps, place two fingers on the content and move them toward each other. This pinch gesture reduces content magnification without disabling Accessibility Zoom. After double-tapping to enlarge a photo or supported webpage, you can also double-tap it again to zoom out.
In Safari on iOS 27, tap the Page Menu button beside the search field, then select Page Zoom. Tap the small A to decrease the size; 100% is the default. On an open iPhone Duo, use Zoom Out or Actual Size instead.
In Chrome, select More > Zoom text..., then tap Zoom out at the top of the screen. This affects webpage content only.
For oversized photo thumbnails on iOS 27, open Photos and select Library. Tap the Sort and Filter button, then select View Options > Zoom Out, or pinch inward on the library grid. In Maps, you can zoom out with one finger by double-tapping the map, holding the second tap, and dragging downward.
In Camera on iOS 27, pinch inward, or touch and hold the zoom control and move its slider to a lower magnification. You can also tap a lower zoom value offered by your model and camera mode, such as 1x or 0.5x.
On models with Camera Control, lightly double-press Camera Control. Slide to Zoom and lightly press Camera Control to select it. Slide again to reduce magnification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can tapping the back of an iPhone turn Zoom off?
Yes, you can configure Back Tap to trigger Accessibility Shortcut on iPhone 8 or later running iOS 14 or later. First assign Zoom under Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut, then open Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap. Select Double Tap or Triple Tap and assign Accessibility Shortcut. Perform that tap pattern on the back of the phone, then select Zoom if a feature menu opens.
How do you hide the enlarged window that appears while typing?
On iOS 27, swipe on the Hover Typing window to hide it temporarily. To disable it, open Settings > Accessibility > Hover Text > Hover Typing and turn off Hover Typing. For enlargement triggered by a pointing device, turn off Hover Text under Settings > Accessibility > Hover Text.
How do you zoom out in the Magnifier app?
Move the zoom slider toward lower magnification in Magnifier. Magnifier enlarges the camera’s view of nearby objects, so its slider adjusts that view rather than the iPhone interface.
Can an external keyboard zoom out in Pages or Numbers on iPhone?
Yes, with a keyboard connected and a document or spreadsheet open, press Shift + Command + Left Angle Bracket (<). This shortcut reduces document zoom in Pages or Numbers.
Can your organization’s administrator disable Zoom on a managed iPhone?
Yes, if your managed iPhone is eligible for Apple’s AccessibilitySettings command. Ask your administrator to check the enrollment and supervision requirements in your organization’s management service, then send a Settings command with Item set to AccessibilitySettings and ZoomEnabled explicitly set to false. Management-console labels vary.
